Whether it’s a family reunion, a wedding or even your company picnic, the key to any successful event is planning ahead—which includes planning for the unexpected. Most homeowners or other liability insurance policies don’t provide coverage at catering halls or other public facilities, and coverage purchased through the venue can be unnecessarily costly.
Special Event insurance through your Alumni Insurance Program can provide up to $2 million of coverage for events lasting from a few hours to as much as 10 days, offering reasonably priced protection against liability for injuries and damage to property (including motor vehicles)—as well as losses that may be incurred by third parties such as paid entertainers.
Coverage is available for events held anywhere in the United States, its territories and possessions, plus Puerto Rico and Canada. Plans are endorsed by the National Alliance of Special Event Planners, Inc.
What is Covered
Standard policies include protection against liability involving:
- Bodily injury – to guests, workers, and others present at covered events.
- Property damage or destruction – to the property of others (such as a rented venue).
- Motor vehicle liability – against injuries or property damage involving vehicles belonging to covered individuals.
- Host liquor liability – for events at which alcohol is served at no charge to guests and for which alcohol is not included as part of any admission charge.
- Contractual liability – protection against damages relating to the terms of written agreements associated with a covered event.
Additional coverages are available, including liquor liability coverage for cash bar events, as well as cancellation insurance and other non-liability plans.
